Before We Were Yours

By: Lisa Wingate

Before We Were Yours is a fascinating story, told in alternating chapters, moving between the past and present. In 1939 Memphis, Rill Foss and her siblings are growing up along the river when they are kidnapped and placed at the Tennessee Children’s Home Society until they are sold to new families. In present day South Carolina, Avery Stafford has moved home and a chance encounter with the elderly resident of an extended care facility leads her to question her family’s history. Filled with beautiful descriptions, horrific details ripped from the pages of history and the possibility of romance, Before We Were Yours is a thought-provoking and compelling read! (Read the author’s note to learn more about the history of the Tennessee Children’s Home Society Orphanage)

Little Book Shelf

Each quarter we will be purchasing a set of NEW books curated by the Hockessin Book Shelf for our "Little BookShelf" which will be donated to various organization and causes in our area.

For the month of May, we partnered with Reading Assist Institute, supplying books to support their programming. Reading Assist Institute (RAI) is dedicated to children with significant reading challenges, teaching them the foundational skills of reading and empowering them to succeed academically. They help struggling readers learn the basic mechanics of reading, and train tutors, parents and teachers in an evidence-based, multisensory, structured approach to literacy education.

Together with our customers generous donations, we were able to provide this organization with 65 books.

If you know of a non-profit who would benefit from partnering with The Little BookShelf please email the store.
