February Newsletter

February is Library Lovers Month!

Hello, Hello... February is Library Lovers Month and we are kicking off some new programs, giving you even more to love! Details below, but be sure to come in and pick up a calendar.

NEW PROGRAMS FOR FEBRUARY!

TableTop Tuesday

Feb. 3 - 4pm-7:45pm - We kick the month off with a brand new program playing new and classic board games. Not sure how to play, no problem, we have experienced gamers to help you get started. This is a great opportunity to get together with friends and meet new ones, so step away from the screen and take a seat at the table!


All are welcome to this program, but games will be geared toward Adults and Young Adults. Drop in any time, you do not have to be here at 4pm to participate, but give yourself at least an hour to ensure you have time to play.


Master Gardener Series - Feb 9 - 7pm

February also sees the start of our Master Gardener Series. Each month we will host Boone County's Master Gardeners, who will be discussing a variety of topics. This series will also include tours of various facilities in the area.



This month discussion - "Fun Ways to Eat Your Homegrown Veggies". What better way to get motivated for the upcoming growing season than to see what can be done with fruits of your labor!


Discussion will take place in Children's Department Storytime Room at 7pm, on Feb 9.

Adult Programs and New Books!

NeedleCraft Every Tuesday 6:30pm

Knit, Crochet, Quilt, Cross Stitch, Scrapbook... All Crafts and Experience Levels Welcome!


Bring your project or just drop in every Tuesday at 6:30pm in the Fireplace Room on First Floor.

Adult Non-Fiction Books

Quilts and Crafts - Feb 7 - 9am-3pm

Join other Crafters on the first Saturday of the month to share ideas and have great conversations as you work on your project. All crafts welcome!


Tablet Tutor - Feb 10, 10am or Feb 13, 2pm

Bring in your IPAD, Kindle, Android, or other E-Reader, and we will discuss how to use it as well as what resources you have available through the library.

Ericson Book Discussion Group - Feb 17, 7pm

McCorkle puts her finger on the pulse of every character s strengths, weaknesses, and secrets. And, as she connects their lives through their present circumstances, their pasts, and, in some cases, through their deaths, she celebrates the blessings and wisdom of later life and infuses this remarkable novel with hope and laughter.


Chamber Legislative Forum - Feb 21 - 8am

Let your voice be heard at this years first Legislative Forum. Come and meet with your local Iowa legislators. Coffee and rolls will be provided.


Genealogy Workshop - Feb 23 - 6pm - 7:45pm

Join Pamela Schwartz, Boone County Historical Soc. Executive Director, as we discuss genealogical research and work through genealogical hurdles.

Teen and Tween Activities and Books

Animation All Month!

EARLY OUT ACTION and the Midweek Matinees will be featuring Animation all month. We will be viewing some classic anime as well as animated feature length movies.



EARLY OUT ACTION will be on Feb 4th at 2pm.


Midweek Matinees will be the remaining Wednesdays, at 3pm.

TnT Crafts - Origami - Feb 9, 4-5pm

We continue the anime theme with the Japanese art of Origami, stop in and learn how to fold paper into art.


New YA Fiction Books

Book Discussion - Friday Feb 27 - 4pm

We kick off the 4th Friday Book Club with Neil Gaiman's "Coraline". "One of the most frightening books ever written." - New York Times Book Review.



The 4th Friday Book Club is designed for and around Teens and Tweens. The books can be picked up at the First Floor Desk.

Books and Events in the Children's Department

Family Fun - 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm

Feb 3 - Musical Hearts - an evening of reading, hearts, and activities to celebrate the love of books.



Feb 17 - Mo Willems Night - we read about Pigeon, Elephan, and Piggie, and their wild adventures. Activities and crafts provided.

Storytimes

Every Wednesday and Thursday at 10AM, stop in and enjoy a story in our Children's Department.


We also have a story time on Saturday, February 21st, at 10am


A special Sensory Storytime will be taking place on Saturday, February 28th, at 10AM and 10:15AM, please call our Children's Department to register.



Bridge to Reading

Feb 11 - 10am - Guest Reader - Greg Pilkapp

Greg will be reading "Row, Row, Row Your Boat", by Jane Cabrera.


Feb 18 - 10am - Guest Reader - Justin Adams

Justin will be reading "I'm My Own Dog", by David Stein.
