The museum commemorates the American Civil War in New Mexico this February

In the late winter of 1862, a small army of Confederate soldiers, led by a charismatic but alcoholic general, invaded the New Mexico Territory. This military endeavor included the largest land battle ever fought in the west, the only lancer charge in the entire Civil War, and a number of other unique and interesting occurrences. Local historian John Taylor will discuss the Civil War in the New Mexico Territory in a presentation at the Los Lunas Museum of Heritage and Arts on February 18 at 2 pm. He and fellow local historian, Baldwin G. Burr will lead a tour to Fort Craig, a critical Civil War and Indian War site, on February 25. In addition, the museum will feature an exhibit on the Civil War in New Mexico.
