March Newsletter

Hello All, the month of March is all about changing time. We change our clocks (move ahead one hour, March 8th). The season is changing from Winter to Spring (March 20th). Here at the library we have a bunch of ways you can get the most out of your time. We have a number of programs that will enrich your life either through becoming more knowledgeable or enjoying social time with friends new and old. And, of course we have thousands of resources both physical and online that you can use to better yourself. So, take some time and stop by the library you never know what you might find. - Matt


New Programs for March!

Magic Monday / PoKeMonDay

Mar. 9 and Mar. 23, after school to 5:30pm.

We explore the worlds of Trading Card Games as we set up a time for you to come in and play your favorites. All games and all players welcome, these are not tournaments, just a time for people to get together and have a great time.



Coffee Talk

Mar. 14, 10am


Love Coffee? So do we! But how much do you really know about it? This month we start a monthly series about Coffee. Our guest speakers will be discussing a variety of topics from how to enjoy better coffee at home, to roasting, to running an urban coffee shop. We kick off the series with Betsy Gideon, Owner of the Good News Room right here in Boone. Stop in to learn and enjoy some great coffee.


Dr. Who Week!

Mar. 16-19, 3-5pm each day

We celebrate all things Doctor with four days of Dr. Who. Each afternoon we will do a craft, watch an episode, and one lucky person will walk away with a daily prize. This event is primarily designed for young adults, but all Whovians are welcome. The event also coincides with Boone Public School's Spring Break.


Adult Programming and New Books

TableTop Tuesday

Mar. 3, 4-7:45pm

Join us as we play new and classic board games. Not sure how to play, no problem, we have experienced gamers to help you get started. This is a great opportunity to get together with friends and meet new ones, so step away from the screen and take a seat at the table!


All are welcome to this program, but games will be geared toward Adults and Young Adults. Drop in any time, you do not have to be here at 4pm to participate, but give yourself at least an hour to ensure you have time to play.



Quilts and Crafts


Mar. 7, 9am-3pm


Join other Crafters on the first Saturday of the month to share ideas and have great conversations as you work on your project. All crafts welcome!


New Non-Fiction

Master Gardener Series

Mar. 9, 7pm

Each month we host Boone County's Master Gardeners, who discuss a variety of topics. This month discussion - "Planning Your Planting Space". A better plan means a better garden.


Discussion will take place in Children's Department Storytime Room at 7pm, on Mar. 9.



Tablet Tutor

Mar. 10, 10am or Mar. 13, 2pm


Bring in your IPAD, Kindle, Android, or other E-Reader, and we will discuss how to use it as well as what resources you have available through the library.

Needlecraft



Every Tuesday 6:30pm

Knit, Crochet, Quilt, Cross Stitch, Scrapbook... All Crafts and Experience Levels Welcome!


Bring your project or just drop in every Tuesday at 6:30pm in the Fireplace Room on First Floor.





New Fiction

Genealogy Workshop

Mar. 16, 6pm - 7:45pm

Join Pamela Schwartz, Boone County Historical Soc. Executive Director, as we discuss genealogical research and work through genealogical hurdles. Drop in any time, group meets in 2nd Floor Meeting Room.


Ericson Book Discussion Group

Discussion is Mar. 17, 7pm

Join us as we read 2015's All Iowa Reads book, "My Name is Mary Sutter", by Robin Oliveira.



Mary Sutter is a brilliant young midwife who dreams of becoming a surgeon. Eager to run away from recent heartbreak, Mary travels to Washington, D.C., to help tend the legions of Civil War wounded. Under the guidance of two surgeons, who both fall unwittingly in love with her, and resisting her mother's pleas to return home to help with the difficult birth of her twin sister's baby, Mary pursues her medical career against all odds. Rich with historical detail-including cameo appearances by Abraham Lincoln and Dorothea Dix, among others-My Name Is Mary Sutter is certain to be recognized as one of the great novels about the Civil War.

Chamber Legislative Forum

Feb. 21, 8am

Let your voice be heard at this years first Legislative Forum. Come and meet with your local Iowa legislators. Coffee and rolls will be provided. Meets in 2nd Floor Meeting Room


Young Adult Books and Activities

March's Young Adult theme is time, we will be watching time travel movies, reading time travel books, and celebrating one of the most prolific time traveller, Doctor Who.



Join us, it will be worth making time for.

New Young Adult Books


Book Discussion - Feb. 27, 4pm


Meg's father had been experimenting with this fifth dimension of time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Now the time has come for Meg, her friend Calvin, and Charles Wallace to rescue him. But can they outwit the forces of evil they will encounter on their heart-stopping journey through space?

The 4th Friday Book Club is designed for and around Teens and Tweens. The books can be picked up at the First Floor Desk.

Mar. 3 - Pete the Cat Night


Mar. 17 - Plant a Seed - We welcome spring with an eventing of books and activities about spring. Families will get to take home their own planted seed.


Storytimes

Every Wednesday and Thursday at 10AM, stop in and enjoy a story in our Children's Department.


We also have a story time on Saturday, March 21st, at 10am


A special Sensory Storytime will be taking place on Saturday, March 28th, at 10AM and 10:15AM, please call our Children's Department to register.

LEGO Master Builder Acadamy

We will finish building our lair and add a backdrop to create our story. All Elementary ages welcome, no sign-up required.

Minecraft

Mar. 18, 3pm


Bring your device, or come without, and enjoy playing Minecraft with friends.
