April News and Events from Glendale Public Library

Ready, Set, WRITE!

Do you love to write? Are you looking to get published, start your novel, or maybe you just have an idea kicking around in your head? This month at Glendale Public Library we have something for all levels of writers. In partnership with the Arizona State Library, GPL is happy to host Amy Nichols, our Writer In Residence for Spring 2016. Amy is the author of the young adult science fiction Duplexity series: Now That You're Here and While You Were Gone. She will be having open office hours at the Main Library throughout April and May, and will be offering "Crafting Your Query Letter and Pitching to Agents" at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3. Amy is currently working on three new book projects and says she's looking forward to discussing the creative process during her time as a writer in residence. "If a writer came in with a story and wanted to sit and talk about how revision works, or how writing works, or what the writing life looks like, that would be wonderful." Amy's office hours are 2-4 p.m., Monday afternoons, and 11 a.m. -1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Another teen author, Beth Cato, will be visiting the Foothills Branch Library on Saturday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. Beth is the author of The Clockwork Dagger (a 2015 Locus Award finalist for First Novel) and The Clockwork Crown from Harper Voyager. She will be available to talk to teens about writing, publishing, her books, and more!

If you're more of a "crafty" storyteller, don't worry, we have you covered! Patrons of all ages can participate in a Tell Your Story project designed to get the creative spirit moving. Young patrons can make Story Stones at the Foothills Branch, or a Story Garden at Main. Poetry Magnets are a favorite with teens, and they are returning to the Foothills Branch! Adults, don't feel left out, artist Christy Puetz will be bringing Adventure Boxes to the Velma Teague Branch.
