"Amending America: The Bill of Rights," a National Archives traveling exhibit

December 15th, 2016 marks the 225th anniversary of the Ratification of the Bill of Rights. To commemorate the occasion, the National Archives created the exhibit "Amending America: The Bill of Rights." In conjunction with a national exhibit in Washington D.C., a traveling exhibit has been making its way around the country this year.

Because of the generosity and hard work of the New Mexico Humanities Council, Los Lunas Museum of Heritage & Arts has the privilege of presenting the exhibit on December 15th, the actual anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights!

To celebrate, come join us for an open house December, 17th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Check out the interactive Bill of Rights Exhibit and enjoy light refreshments. In addition, take advantage of the opportunity to watch a video featuring a panel discussion with some of the top Bill of Rights scholars in the country. The video was recorded at the National Archives to kick off the opening of the "Amending America" national exhibit earlier this year. The panelists discuss the history surrounding the proposal of the Bill of Rights and the implications the precedent of amending the Constitution had at the time and on the subsequent process of forming "a more perfect union" over the past 225 years.

"Amending America" is presented in part by the National Archives Foundation through the generous support of AT&T, the Seedling Foundation, the New Mexico Humanities Council and the Museum of Heritage & Arts.

Congratulations Gaye Garrison, our 4th Annual Juried Art Show: Milestones Best of Show winner

Gaye Garrison's piece, Haircut, was chosen by our panel of jurors to receive the Best of Show award. She received a prize of $300 and the honor of a solo show at the museum in June 2017. The 4th Annual Juried Art Show: Milestones remains on exhibit through December 31st.

Support Valencia County Youth this Holiday Season

Here at the museum, we love putting on the Juried Student Art Show to encourage participation in the arts, instill a sense of pride in participating students, and provide an event to bring our community together.

Award winners from the Juried Student Art Show receive a debit card printed with an image of their artwork. It is through the generosity of the community that we are able to load these cards with cash for the students.

The look of pride on the faces of the winners upon receiving a debit card with their artwork definitely makes our jobs worth it! Please consider supporting student participation in the arts and don't miss the opening reception of the Juried Student Art Show next spring to witness the excitement of the student artists for yourself!
